Default Multiple Pets

Why can I only have one pet? I'd like to have multiple pets. But before you say this is crap, listen to what I've got to say.

Your charm animal would be like a cap sig and an elite skill in that you can buy more charm animals for different pets, but you can only have one charm animal on your skill bar at one time.

If you have a pet and you cap another animal, that skill is removed immediately from your bar so that you don't have more than one pet out.

When you are deciding on what pet to use, you will see something like:
  • Charm Animal (Lvl 20 Dire Black Widow)
  • Charm Animal (Lvl 5 Bobby Boy)
  • Charm Animal (Lvl 20 Elder Phoenix)
  • Charm Animal (Lvl 20 Hearty Phoenix)

That way depending on your strategy you could have raised different pets to level 20 and have different strategies. In addition to this, when you obtain a pet of different species and evolutions, it would unlock additional PVP unlocks. For instance you might have Hearty and White Tiger unlocked and Crab. Then on the character creation screen if you chose ranger, you will have a thing to customize your pet and it's evolution. This would be like the Superior Absorption Rune for rangers.

I like keeping up threads;P

Yeah, i think it's sorta good idea, why not. However, i think there should be a limit of animals you may tame, and choose from.

As long as you can still only keep with you at a time, then I'm fine with it.

UGH, not this topic AGAIN...I jsut posted about this like 3 days ago -_-

But, /signed as long as you can only have 1 pet with you at a time. Since ANet is all about promoting how GW is not all about "grinding," I don't see why players should have to grind-level their pets whenever they want to change pets.

*sigh*...it's discouraging how quickly this thread died. Even if you don't use pets in PvP, even if you personally don't care what evolution your pet is, some people do, and it is simply unfair to not be able to choose what evolution status your pet is. I know that the evolution status doesn't make a huge difference, but it makes about as much difference as the inscription of a weapon. Think about it: pets are the beast master's weapon, with two special modifiers--the ability to deal damage and their own health/ability to take damage. Is not being able to choose your pet's evolution status the same as not being able to choose your weapon's inscription? In PvP, one should be able to choose a Wolf, damage +15%, health -60 just like one should be able to choose a
Short Sword, damage +15%>50, armor +5.
/signed, once again, to the idea of being able to charm more than one pet (of course only being able to carry one with you at a time)
and /signed to the idea of unlocking pet evolutions (I'm neutral on the unlocking of different pet skins...that's a whole different subject...)

I still strongly agree with this, and I have no idea how anyone was able to revive on of my threads from half a year ago, but no matter I'm still glad, because this is an important subject and I'm surprised that I don't hear rangers whining and complaining about this more...

My thoughts exactly. Pets are a beastmaster's weapon, so why can't we "inscribe" them with different things just like we can do to a weapon. (of course this would only be in pvp)

/signed to unlocking evolutions and "inscribing" your pet with them in pvp

Also, I really like that idea of signets for your pets that allow you to have different pets tamed at once, while still only having one pet out at a time. I mean, since pets are a beast master's weapon, why can't each char hold multiple ones, just like other classes can hold multiple weapons for the same attribute. Ya, we will have to level each pet to level 20, but then again, we don't have to get multiple pets, do we? It's not really considered grind if we willingly do it, and I honestly can't see someone trying to level multiple pets if they don't want to.

/signed to pet sigs (or something like that) that allow us to get multiple pets

I'd rather see a command interface first though, even one as simple as we already have for the heroes.
There could be a slider that shows which way your pet is headed on the evolution path, the HP of the pet, which calls are currently affecting your furry, and of course *at least* the familiar shield, dove, and sword.
Pets have been out for as long as guildwars, and they still have the same abyssmal control system.

That being said, I'd like the enemy AI in PvE fixed before anything else. Maybe if I say this enough someone will read it.

Either for capture sigs...

or for having a pet stash
Once you capture a new pet, the old one goes in the stash.
This removes the need for changing how charm animal works.
You could also have players buy extra pet-specific stash slots as an upgrade.

Default Multiple Pets Through Purchasable Signets, Illustrated!

Heh...actually, I was about to start yet another thread that would have basically said, almost word for word, everything you did, minus unlocking different pet breeds for PvP use once charmed. I first saw reference to this iidea in the Guild Hall Kennel thread, and wanted to separate it into a thread of its own. I remember searching the Index of Ideas, and I suppose I forgot to use the regular search.

But no matter, on to the title of this post!
For the thread I was going to make, I had a little fun in photoshop and put together this series of illustrations, but since the thread already exists, I'll post them here. And I know that people can figure out the idea without illustrations, but pretty pictures often draw more attention than plain text (like in the case of The Lord of The Rings novels vs. movies) and add a nice touch to any argument.

Multiple Pets Through Purchasable Signets, Illustrated (best viewed in order shown)
1) Dilemma!
2) Dilemma No More!
3) Charming
4) Equipping the Pet
5) Leveling Up and Evolution Status
6) Getting Rid of Your Pet(s)

If you have any suggestions regarding the ideas in the illustrations (or have anything else to say regarding the illustrations, I suppose), feel free to post them, but most of the illustration's ideas are in line with what Kai Nui suggested. Oh, and sorry about the name of the signet (Signet of Charm Animal). It's a lame name, but I hadn't thought of "Signet of Taming or "Signet of Animal Charming" or anything until after I had made most of the illustration, and didn't feel like going back and fixing them.

This is a great idea, and none of those previous threads where appropriately titled, which is why they are hard to trace.

I can definetly see your point here, instead of having only one charm animal skill and a single pet available, you could have several saved, even if you could only keep one at a time.

But these arn't signets of capture, and perhaps a better means could be used, like being able to charm a new animal even if you have one present, and any new captures can be added to your "kennel" for swapping in town and city locations. It is about time they made a pet saving interface with at least 4 pets, it would greatly improve beast aquisition and developement.

I'm no buff on computer programming and coding and whatnot, so I have a question for those who are: would it be more difficult to implement the, or to change the way tamers work so that they "hold" pets for you?

the search button is your friend. stop beating the dead horse.

we all know pets need a buff, we are all waiting for it. Anet knows we want it.

Did you bother using the search button before posting this? Besides the Guild Hall Kennel thread, this is one of two threads that show up when searching for "multiple pets." Similar searches yield similar results. This is by far the best organized and thought out of the posts about charming more than one pet, and once again is only one of two posts to suggest unlocking pet evolutions with faction. Also, notice the date this thread was posted. Last June. I found this thread through the search feature and revived it.
This post isn't about "buffing" pets. It is about allowing rangers to charm more than one pet and giving rangers additional, purchasable pet skills...
Your attitude reflects what seems to be the attitude of almost everyone in this forum--
"we all know pets need a 'buff.'"
"UGH, not this topic AGAIN..." (and this post was from last June...this attitude is by no means a recent development)
"Hasn't this exact same idea been suggested before...?" (in response) "*shrug*"
It's like, at one point, multiple pet threads ran rampant, and then everyone burned out, gained a severe grudge, and refused to say anything other than "stop beating the dead horse" to people just recently decided to join the threads and are still thoroughly interested in the subject.

This is the only thread suggesting the idea contained within it, and yet is hanging on by only a thread. However, I feel confident that almost every player in this thread would not oppose this idea, and several would be downright interested. The Guild Hall Kennel thread shows this through its rather large number of supporters. So many people are interested or atleast agree, but have already posted somewhere on something similar, and feel that it's pointless to post again, that they are "beating the dead horse," even when an apparently simple, great idea such as this is presented in a clean, well done manner.
I feel even more confident that people agree with unlocking pet evolutions. As much as people agree that pets are a beast master's weapon in the Ranger weapons that aren't linked to Marksmanship, they surely agree that it's only fair to be able to unlock a beast master's weapon modifiers. Perhaps they again feel that the subject is exhausted.
I know that people have seen the suggestions in this thread even before this thread was posted, but I find no evidence to support it. The ideas of multiple pets being charmed through purchasable skills and evolutions being unlockable and usable in PvP aren't even represented in the Index of Ideas! To a person who just joined the forums, it's like this horse never lived in the first place!
I want ArenaNet to know that I'm interested in this idea, and this is the only thread that I can do it in without posting a new topic that is likely to be ignored even more. And I don't think I'm the only one.

I miss my pet crab (named Bait) But I do like my spider. Being able to have multiple pets, but only carry one at a time, is a good idea. Maybe like a signet of capture you would have to buy another charm animal, then when you moused over it would tell you which pet was which. Anyway, good idea.
